Telling a Story: Two brothers
Angela has two boys, one who is two and one who is 14. She approached me about capturing her two boys, as her eldest son lives in Australia and he was visiting for the summer. It was a fantastic opportunity to capture the boys together.
I guessed that both boys would not be interested in a portrait session, but for different reasons. The toddler is at an age where they love exploring and being busy. The teenager is at an age where they do not always feel comfortable in front of the camera. What to do?
We chatted and decided we would use skateboards as a prop to help the boys to interact and forget the camera. We also decided to use a graffiti wall as the background to add some edge for the teenager.
I love the different emotions a toddler expresses ( and the same can be said of teenagers). There is no fake smile, and if they are not happy then that is the face they show. It makes the smile extra special when they share it with you. Enjoy!
Something Personal: A letter that made me cry
My dear friend, Rachel, tried to reply to this blog post http://www.image-421.com/2012/01/telling-story-alexander-family.html but for some reason it didn’t work. So after trying 3 times, she sent it via email and asked me to post it to my blog.
You not only captured the beautiful images of all my beautiful children but your entire family have captured our hearts! You are an inspiration to all stay at home mums that anything is possible. Cindy you never cease to amaze me with your kind, caring and positive outlook on all things you set out to accomplish. You found time in your crazy schedule and visit to Australia to fit us in. You seem to have found your true passion in life. We always enjoy any time we are able to spend with you guys and the images of the children are so natural its breath taking! When you moved to Brazil you took a piece of us with you and we are always so excited to see you when you come back and visit us.
Thank you for taking the time to write these kind words. It was not necessary, but they are most appreciated. They will inspire me to keep pursuing my passion, and capturing our world as I see it.
Telling a Story: My first maternity session
To say I was excited, after Stefani emailed, is an understatement. She asked if I would be interested in taking some maternity shots of her and her family. Of course, I jumped at the chance. We exchanged further emails with links to websites and blogs to decide on the types of images she liked best. We worked out a plan for the session and the style she liked most.
Stefani is already blessed with a loving husband and daughter. The family has a lovely connection, and we took this opportunity to capture the family before the new addition arrives. Their baby will be welcomed with open arms, loving hearts and have a special place to call home.
I hope there will be more maternity sessions, as I enjoyed this session immensely. Enjoy!
Telling a Story: Eli at 3 weeks
Dear friends of our family celebrated the arrival of their third child in December, and while we were on holidays we had the pleasure of meeting him. He was so new and small, and I enjoyed many “Auntie” cuddles.
So I asked if I could capture him, and we planned an afternoon session with afternoon tea and play time for our children. We relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company in the gorgeous afternoon sun.
We used a pure white blanket as the background. It was soft and creamy, just perfect for a baby. I love the simplicity of these shots. They are celebrating this boy and all that he was at this point. His eyes, ears, toes, fingers and all the pieces that make up this child. I am sure he has grown and changed since these photos, but this is Eli at 3 weeks. Welcome to the world sweet prince!
Telling A Story: The Alexander Family
I have started, stopped, then deleted and started this blog post a number of times. I cant seem to find the right words to express how I feel about this session, the images, and this beautiful family. The Alexander’s were a strong support to us when we first arrived in Albury, and with children that are similar ages, we immediately became extremely close friends. They were fully supportive when we moved to Brazil, but breaking the news to this family was so hard, resulting in tears from all of us. So when my sweet friend, asked me to take photos of her children she continued to express support for me and my business.
I always wonder where she gets her energy from, as Rachel never does anything by halves. When we started to discuss her ideas and feel for the images she wanted, I knew the props, clothing, and the location would be just incredible. Some of the items belong to Rachel and her stunning collection. The spectacular red sofa and the chandelier belong to Gather Vintage Hire. You can visit their FB page at:https://www.facebook.com/gathervintagehire.
As we talked, I knew my role was to just to show up and capture the beauty.
We meet at Jindera, where the family has a small farm, in the late afternoon. We enjoyed the session with 3 miniature ponies, numerous goats, a dog, 9 children, and 4 adults. The session was one of the longest I have done so far, but one of the most fulfilling. It was not until after we had finished, and I paused for a moment did I stop to think “WOW…that was a dream come true”. I wish I could show all of the photos. I have limited the images to my most favourite of the favourites. Enjoy!
Take care,
CC

Telling a story: Collecting bits and pieces
Over coffee, Lily and I met to discuss family portraits for her family. The last time she had portraits taken was in a studio, a couple of years ago. She felt they all looked stiff and unnatural in the images, and they did not reflect her family. We chatted about what her family loves to do, especially her children. She told me that her children loved to collect twigs, leaves, flowers, and bugs, and I knew immediately that Parque Vincentina Aranha would be the best location.
During the photo session, we walked around the huge bamboo, picked acerola, fed the chickens, and explored around the long grass. It was so much fun, and they collected many bits and pieces to take home. I really do not think the children thought they were in the middle of a portrait session, and as a result the images are stunning. Enjoy!
