ihf photo challenge: autumn splendour

ihf photo challenge: black

This weeks challenge at http://www.iheartfaces.com/ is black, but not black as in “black & white”. The photo needs to be in colour and be black…oh don’t you just love a challenge! Here is my submission:
Ripstick rider

The graffiti wall makes a great backdrop for this image of my son with his Ripstick. His stance and his stare were his idea. I just love it when they get into the session and get creative.

Telling a story: My Husband

Darren asked me to create a corporate headshot for his linked-in account but, I saw this as a great opportunity to have a portrait session with my gorgeous husband and best friend. We have travelled the world together and lived in 3 countries. We have been blessed with 5 children, in a time when 2 is the norm. We rely on each other for our chosen career, and he is my number one supporter with my passion for photography. When he ran his second marathon this year, I was sooo proud of his achievement, and the changes he made to make it happen. We laugh a lot, we share a passion for coffee and books, and we love seeing this amazing world….together.

A hat, a chair and Sienna

While scrolling through Facebook one night, I noticed that Sienna had uploaded a new photo. In the photo, she was wearing a very funky hat. Almost immediately, I saw an image of Sienna, sitting in an antique chair, wearing a long skirt, reading (one of her passions) and wearing the hat. The image was floating around in my mind for a couple of days before I found the courage to approach her (and her Mum) about bringing the image to life. Sienna jumped at the chance. It took a while to pull all the props together, but when we did the session it was more than I imagined. Sienna was a natural in front of the camera and seem to know instinctively when to smile, when to look away and when to stare into the camera lens. The sunlight was gorgeous, and the props were worth the effort it took to find them. I was buzzing after the session, and very proud that I had followed my instinct.

Telling a story: Capturing the light and a little piece of Brazil

When I met Jen at an expat coffee morning, I had no idea how our friendship would grow. We have shared a beach house, a trip to Rio de Janeiro to experience Carnaval, her house during our recent move plus the highs and lows of life as we walk around Parque Vincentina each morning. The setting for our session with her two beautiful children had to be at our favourite park. We went at dusk to catch the golden light at sunset. I personally wanted capture a little piece of Brazil for the family to remember when they return  home. I am so happy to share these images of a very special family. Enjoy!

iheartfaces photo challenge: let them be little

This week at  http://www.iheartfaces.com/ the theme  for the photo challenge is “let them be little”. The dressing-up phase is my favourite for the toddler stage. I love the sparkle they have in their eye when they create their own costume. I love the voices they make to become the scary witch or the mean pirate. I love how they can spend hours, wearing the costume, and being the character. I had to share this image for the photo challenge this week. The roaring was the little lion’s idea.

iheartfaces photo challenge: tickled pink

This week at  http://www.iheartfaces.com/ they have turned pink in honour of breast cancer awareness and the theme for the photo challenge this week is tickled pink. I am submitting this photo of the birthday girl admiring the pink cupcake pops, and from the look on her face, I can imagine her saying
“Yummy! How many can I have?”.
