the wonder of childhood
Making cupcakes: Children’s portrait session in Sydney
Miss Lucy is almost 3 and ready to explore all the wonder that life has to offer. Upon visiting her home, I saw the lovely “kitchen” that her Mum had made from two bedroom side tables that were just divine. It included a sink, oven and shelves filled with all the requirements for a busy home. I drove home thinking of a portrait session that could use the kitchen and the ideas just bubbled over. I emailed her Mum and suggested the ideas to her. She loved it.
The session was outside on an early morning. The sun was behind the clouds, but cleared as we started. Lucy made the cupcakes from scratch and added flour, sugar, chocolate, egg and milk. We built up the cake-mix a little at a time, and we chatted as she worked. We then put the batter into the patty liners and “baked” them in her oven. We then added frosting, and sprinkles. You may notice that Lucy’s batter was chocolate, but the cooked cupcakes are vanilla. Lucy was happy to frost them none the less. As every cook knows, licking of the spoon and an extra spoonful of sprinkles are the rewards for the chef.
I am happy to share these images with you. Enjoy!
